1-Day Hybrid Narrative Therapy Workshop:
Building Agency with Those Who Have Been Subjected to Violence

facilitated by counsellor, supervisor, trainer, and Dulwich Centre faculty member,

Loretta Pederson

Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (EEST)

The Hellenic Association of Narrative Therapy and Community Practice (HANT&CP) is a professional organization of narrative therapists and community practitioners based in Greece. We strive to cultivate a sense of community while spreading narrative ideas and practices through training, research, consultation, and other collaborative efforts alongside local and international partners.

We are excited to announce our upcoming 1-day narrative therapy workshop on October 5th that will be offered in-person in Athens and online through Zoom video conferencing. The workshop will be facilitated by Loretta Pederson, counsellor, supervisor, trainer, and Dulwich Centre faculty member. Please find below more information about the event.

About the Workshop

  • Which narrative practices are useful when people we meet with experience strong distress as a result of physical or sexual violence?
  • How can we resist the isolating nature of individual therapy?
  • How can we make the broader social issues that people are up against visible to reduce self-blame?
  • How do we as practitioners keep our hope alive, when hearing daily stories of violation and oppression?

In this workshop, Loretta Pederson will share stories of practice and transcripts which respond to these questions through a feminist lens. Participants will be invited to engage in reflective exercises and experiential small group activities to gain confidence in putting these ideas into practice.

Learning Objectives

During this training you will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover narrative practices which build a stronger sense of agency when people are feeling powerless
  • Become more confident in having conversations addressing issues of violence
  • Develop ways to explore the link between being subjected to violence by others and self-harm
  • Examine and begin to deconstruct some dominant ideas in society which may impact people’s identity and get in the way of accessing support
  • Consider ways workers can be sustained when responding to issues of violence and injustice
